Precepts Series: An Introduction to the Sixteen Bodhisattva Precepts.

This series introduces practitioners to the Sixteen Zen Bodhisattva precepts. This year, there will be two series at different locations:

(1) at ZCLA taught by Roshi Egyoku Nakao and Dharma Holder Raul Ensho Berge, and

(2) at The Valley Sangha taught by Dharma Holder Pat Shingetsu Guzy.

The classes are open to all those who are interested in learning about the precepts and their application to their life. The classes are highly recommended for everyone who practices at ZCLA. The classes are a combination of lectures and discussion. Assignments will be given. This series is a prerequisite for everyone who is interested in formally receiving the precepts (Jukai).

• The Three Tenets
• The Three Vehicles,
• Cause and Effect     
• The Ten Grave Precepts
• Atonement
• ZCLA’s  Statement of Right Conduct

Schedule at ZCLA on Tuesday evenings, led by Roshi and Ensho:

7:30 – 9:00 p.m., July 8, 15, 22, 29, and August 5 (plus a bonus class to be added)  

Schedule at The Valley Sangha on Monday evenings, led by Shingetsu.

7:30 – 9:00 pm., July 7, 14, 21, 28, and August 4 (plus a bonus class to be added)

Tuition for Series: $175 members; $300 nonmembers. Includes Precepts and Study Workbook text received at first session.

Jukai Series

Jukai Classes are for those who wish to receive the precepts. The Precepts Series is a prerequisite for these classes. The class topics include the following:

• The Lineage: Temple, Women, and Personal
• Bowing
• The Jukai Ceremony
• Rakusu and Gassho

Schedule at The Valley Sangha, led by Shingetsu.    

7:30 – 9:00 p.m., Mondays, September 15 and 22

Tuition for Series: $70 members; $140 nonmembers

Rakusu Sewing Class.

Tuition: No fee for class

 

Jukai Ceremony.
